PAM ROSS: Origin Story Interview by Jenna Rose
Jul 18, 2024Well I had the great pleasure of seeing genre-blended songwriter an co-producer, PAM ROSS perform live at the Music City Movement open mic at Honeytree Meadery, and let me tell you, she kicks a**. Lucky for all of us, she is about to release her second album, Outside the Box. It will be trickle-released with her first single, Doublewide, coming out August 9, accompanied by its own music video. (The album's seven tracks will be released individually every two months.) If you're a fan of Americana, roots rock, country, and/or pop, this will be a project you won't want to miss.
Thanks for interviewing with us! This upcoming project reflects some aspects of your life, it seems. Who would you say are your musical and general life influences and in what ways do we hear them come out in your upcoming project?
Pam Ross: I'm influenced by life in general. What I see, hear, and experience. My next album is called Outside the Box because no one can figure out where to put me. Sometimes I feel like the red headed stepchild of music, but it's ok. I like being different. My sound is unique.
My musical influences are varied. I listen to a lot of different music. Everyone from Elton John, Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, Van Halen, Springsteen, Dolly Parton, Clint Black, Sound Garden, Guns 'n Roses, Pink Floyd, R.E.M, are just a few. That's why my music is a mash up so many genres. I listen to different styles of music and that comes out when I write.
With all that cross-genre influence, what track stands out the most to you?
PR: I like them all for different reasons. One of my favorites is Have a Good Time because it's really the outlier of the album. It's fun pop-rock song. I knew when I was writing it how I wanted to produce it. There's 3 of us playing guitar on it to nail down exactly what I wanted.
You've accomplished quite a bit so far in your career - How have you gotten to this point? What’s your story and how does it lead you here?
PR: A big help in my career came when I sign with MTS Management, Promotions, and Records in April 2023. They helped get my music out there in ways I never could have. I've had a lot of success since signing with them including four top ten hits on the UK iTunes charts.
What does the next year look like for you, musically?
PR: Busy. I'll be traveling a lot to Nashville, South Carolina, Texas, and other areas to play. I'm up for a Josie Award (Best Female Multi-Genre Artist) and have seven nomination in the International Red Carpet Awards for Indie Artists.
Now lets get to know you a bit more with some fun rapid-fire questions -When you are not creating music what do you like to do in your free time?
PR: I work out...run, lift weights. Since leaving Houston [for Raleigh, NC] in 2020, I really miss the water so I try to get to the beach when I can.
What are you watching or reading right now?
PR: Bones and Gentleman Jack.
What is the best concert you have ever been to?
PR: That would either be Springsteen or Van Halen (with David Lee).
What is at the top of your bucket list?
PR: Playing the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo..sold out, of course. Oh, and going to Ireland, and Boston.
Do you have any pets?
PR: Yes! I have a dog names Bonsai Stiner, a cat named Spook, and another cat named Jungle Cat.
We love it!
